Revision Ear Surgery : It's Cause and Solution


Abstract
Twenty one cases of revision tympanomastoidectomies operated by a junior staff were analyzed according to the patient's symptom, preoperative otologist's view and operative finding. Otorrhea (11 cases) and cholesteatoma (12 cases) were the main
reasons
for revision operation by patients and surgeon, and the blockage of ventilatory route from the eustachian tube to the middle ear space was the most common causactive underlying pathology. A successful middle ear surgery requires selected method
of
operation based on careful preoperative evaluation and meticulous operative technique.
